The Ulaanbaatar Tourism Department and State Bank are preparing to launch the Travel Card for tourists, to facilitate payment activities in Mongolia and offer discounts for goods and services at contracted shopping centers.
The project was initiated through the Friendly Ulaanbaatar Program and project leaders aim to make the new card functional throughout Mongolia, enabling transactions in MNT. The cards will not have the account holder’s name on it, and it will come with a guidebook containing useful information on shopping centers and other helpful information for tourists, on top of offering exclusive discounts.
The Ulaanbaatar Tourism Department and State Bank say they are confident that the Travel Card will resolve common difficulties faced by tourists when making payments, including a limited transaction network, high fees, high losses due to exchange rates difference, as well as limiting risk associated with carrying cash.
The project’s initiators are encouraging tourism companies and agencies to participate in the project and assist with promoting Travel Card transactions.
Travel Card is expected to become an effective marketing tool for all kinds of services aimed at tourists, expand the range of customers of State Bank, and to help promote local businesses.
